Candidate Biographies

Erica Mason

It seems surreal that the year has passed already, but I’m ready to start Civil President Round 2. I have been a dedicated member of the UBC Civil Club and the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS) for several years. Even if we’ve never met, chances are you’ve seen a short blonde girl in a red jacket running around with a solo cup in one hand and a camera in the other.
This year has been a turning point for UBC Civil. We re-organized and re-branded, hosted our first annual UBC Civil Alumni Dinner and renovated the Loft. This year also I reached out to our student teams and chapters to discuss how the Civil Club could better serve and represent them. My goal this year to further this collaboration and provide them with more opportunities.
I want to continue to serve the UBC Civil Club in the best way possible. If elected to a second term as your president, I continue to make progress on organizing the Civil Club and making it serve you more effectively. I want to continue to formalize collaboration with our student teams and chapters as well as complete the reorganization and rebranding of the club.

VP Student Life

Tony Mendoza & Josh Romero

As two former KPU students, Josh and Tony know what it means to go hard in the paint to achieve their goals. In addition to working hard, playing hard is also something they excel at. If chosen as the VP’s of Student Life, Josh and Tony will ensure that your hard work is rewarded with legendary student events. We’re talking about everything from intense sporting events to charity events to socials that will make frat parties jealous. If you’re still not sold, we will coordinate with other department clubs and ensure that civil students have all the opportunities to attend engineering events. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to revolutionize Civil Engineering and get buckets.

VP Administration

Dania Carrillo & Naomi Hoque

Dania and Naomi are ready to be your VP admin for this coming school year. Through their co-op experiences and involvement on campus and in the community, they have gained the experience to prepare them for such a position. This enthusiastic duo has the communication and organizational skills that will enable them to successfully handle Civil Club internal functions. With them as VP admin, the civil club website will always be up to date, and facilities well managed for your convenience.

VP Finance

Jasmine Smith

Hey, my name is Jasmine and I’m going into my final year of civil engineering! I love sports, outdoors, movies, food, beer and wine, and having fun 🙂 I’m hoping to keep civil club and all of my fellow Civil’s in order by keeping track of the funds for the club. My goal is to balance the needs of all civil students while ensuring we still have tons of fun while at UBC.

VP Academic

Nicola Van Der Mark

Having spent the past term as the Academic Coordinator for the Civil Engineering Undergraduates I know what is needed when speaking for our student body. I hear and understand your academic concerns and I will ensure that all current and future concerns are heard by our department and that steps towards change will be made. My communication and organization skills will help to build a strong foundation for addressing students’ academic needs. By continuing with the role of VP Academic I will help take the Civil Club to bigger and better heights.

VP External

Rebecca Howes

My name is Rebecca Howes, but you may know me as Bridgette Steele, and I am running for the position of VP External. Next year I will be a third/fourth year student due to my interdepartmental transfer to Civil Engineering from Materials Engineering.
This year, as one of the Third Year Civil Representatives, I helped to plan multiple civil events such as the Holidaze party, prE-Week party, and the Civil Alumni Dinner. Due to my involvement obtaining event sponsorship, hosting, and planning this year’s Civil Alumni Dinner I have lots of ideas to help the event to be even more successful next year. Some of my hopes for the event are to increase attendance of both alumni and students, have alumni sponsored student awards, and to continue providing the opportunity for student and civil alumni networking.
I’m very passionate about our department and hope to provide students with some fun, helpful, and memorable events next year!

You will receive an email on March 26th at 11:59 pm informing you that voting is open if you are eligible to vote in the Civil Elections 2017. All members who pay their student fees are eligible to vote.

If you are having any issues voting on the ballot, please email civil.vicepresident@gmail.com with [VOTING ISSUE] in the subject so we can response right away.
